Sunday 4/28/24

April 28, 2024

On Sundays I reflect.

I didn’t drink alcohol this week. It feels good to be back on track. It’s better when I don’t drink.

I’ve been on the torch this week. I flew back from Miami and it’s been snowing in Vail. The mountain is closed and I’m not driving to Summit County to get on my snowboard. I’ve got way too much going on at the studio for that.

Among other projects I finally finished assembling the collaboration with prep that N8 gave me a few weeks ago. I was a bit intimidated to tackle that project, but I did most of the prep before leaving for my trip so that I would be ready to build when I got back. Many of you know I don’t do much hand work off the lathe. Nobody was around to help this week so I ended up working the new UV color Ion for the first time with some pointers from my dude Holdin Golden on flame chemistry. I pulled some stringers and then did a coil pot with the rest of the stick. For most artists this would be pretty basic, and for me it was pushing outside my comfort zone. Thankfully it worked out and the space pint is one of my favorite cups I’ve ever made. We will be releasing this one at the show on May 18 at Stoked in Connecticut. Tickets will be on sale next week!

We are also getting ready for the Weston team to move out fully on May 1 when we will begin construction of the gallery at Bat Country Studios. It’s going to be a big project and not inexpensive so if you’ve had your eyes on any cups this would be a very helpful time to make some deals. Please reach out if you’re interested and we appreciate your support as our studio grows.

We have a limited batch of zip up hoodies in production again finally. This round will all be black with white logos printed on the back and they should be ready to ship soon. We’ve already taken a presale list and about half of this round are already spoken for but please reach out if you want to be on the list before they’re all gone. It’s been years since we have had hoodies and I’m excited to bring them back.

I had a meeting this week with my friends from Two Arrows coffee shop in Vail about planning some programming for the local arts community. I am excited to work with them on a series for artists who want to connect and grow their businesses this summer and I’m grateful to their team for supporting our local arts scene.

I’ve kept in touch with the woman I met at Joel and Meghan’s wedding in New Orleans last weekend since returning home. She’s planning to visit Vail and I’m excited to continue to get to know her better. She has spent time working with clay and wants to try her hands at glass so we will spend some time at the studio together being creative. If it stops snowing here we’ll get outside for a hike and maybe some hot springs. Before she comes I’ll need to clean my room.

This year I didn’t make it to NYC for my birthday, an annual tradition since I left the city a decade ago. I’ll have some time in the city before and after the Stoked show, when I’ll be able to catch up with my people and the city. I used to hate New York before I lived there, and now it feels like a big part of my life. I find it to be rejuvenating every time I return. I live in a bubble in the mountains and going to the city is essential for me to get out of my routine, even if only briefly.

In the meantime it’s early and I’ve got a lot to do at the studio. I’ll spend today on the torch and following up with the artists making work for our show at Stoked where cups have already started accumulating. It’s going to be a jam packed month but summer is right around the corner. They say people come to Vail for the skiing and stay for the summers. It’s really a special place and I’m grateful to call this home.

I’ll put up some Sunday Specials on my Instagram story when I get to the studio to raise some funds for our construction project so make sure to check in over there for some steals and deals.

As always thanks for tuning in and enjoy your Sunday.
