On Sundays I reflect.
I didn’t drink alcohol this week. That’s feeling good for me. I’ve had a few conversations with friends this week about quitting and my addiction. Ultimately, it’s a relief to not drink.
This week was intense for me. I’ve been on call for a corporate client the entire week. It was different than my typical work at the driving job.
The clients put me up in a nice hotel in Vail as to have me more available for them. Being on call already makes it difficult for me to maintain a personal life. This week it was impossible for me to make any plans and I hardly made it to the studio all week.
The group was very kind, especially the events team who were my primary contacts. They made sure I was fed and addressed me with respect and consideration. One morning when I entered the “war room” which was the conference room they were based out of, I received a round of applause from the team. They referred to me as the “MVP of the trip” and called me “a bright light amongst the chaos”.
It feels good to be appreciated, and their extremely generous tip reflects that in addition to their kind words. This week is going to make a major dent in my debt. It was hard work, and I’m feeling relieved to have gotten through it.
The whole week is kind of a blur.
On Friday night I had just a few minutes to attend an event that was important to me in Minturn. Another artist, Gel hosted an art show at her studio. It was so packed with people when I arrived, that I could hardly move. I saw most of the artists who have been attending the monthly talks at Two Arrows which I have been hosting with Andrew Pranger.
I’m elated to see our local arts scene gaining momentum after years of hard work to make that a reality. We’re in this moment right now where things are culminating and I couldn’t be happier.
I’ve thrown art shows and events over the years that have been massively successful. I’ve also thrown events that were hardly attended. It can be frustrating and soul crushing. Friday night was the opposite.
One of my oldest friends Taylor Hines reached out that night. He works in engineering and audio production for live events and used to be based in Vail. We’ve known each other since high school and have always been very close. In the last few years Taylor has been on tour and I hardly see him, though we always try when he inevitably ends up in Vail. This time we got lucky and met for dinner on my way home. It was so good to see him and celebrate both of our recent successes and accomplishments. We also began discussing a potential collaboration that has me quite excited. I’m so proud of my dude who is about to be on a world tour.
I can’t believe how fast time is flying by.
This Friday is Marble Conference in Denver. We will be releasing the latest collaborations with Jen Stark and the team at this event. In the background I’ve been working to prepare for this release. We have a large selection of marbles, pendants, and some other surprises which for the first time will be shown in person by our team rather than online. We all hope to see you there!
After MibCon as it’s known, our team will once again return to the mountains for a third studio session. This time will be slightly different than prior, as we will be celebrating my upcoming birthday in the studio and on the slopes. I’m throwing a few parties which I am very much looking forward to.
A few friends have said to me recently that this is my year. I’ll be turning 36 on March 17. Things are feeling good. It feels like it took a long time to get here. I guess it took 36 years.
I’m grateful to be here. Thank you for being a part of my journey.
As always, enjoy your Sunday.
