On Sundays I reflect.
I didn’t drink alcohol this week.
We’ve been making huge progress with the gallery build out. Thank you to the team at the studio and our friends who have volunteered to help out with construction.
I was too busy to write my blog last week; it was the first Vail Market.
We’ve done the Saturday Minturn Market in the past, and that started back up yesterday. We have a combination glass blowing and pottery throwing booth there every weekend this summer and for the first time we are now featured in the Sunday Vail Market as well. We will have guest artists and live demos, and these markets are the best place to get one of Stan’s Boro bracelets!
When I was a kid in the late 90’s my parents took me to the Artist colony of Tesuque New Mexico. It was the first time I saw glass blowing, furnace work of course. Years later it would be the first place I actually dipped into the furnace myself.
My mom bought a glass bracelet she liked which turned out to be a Kevin O’Grady that I now have in my personal collection. Stan learned the process from Kevin so it feels like a full circle to have him at Bat Country Studios.
I’ve loved glass since I was a kid. I remember my mom’s friends house in Memphis had these prismatic glass pieces stacked on a pedestal in the foyer that I used to play with. They were mesmerizing as they reflected the light of the sun.
I’ve been driving clients a lot lately for extra side money as the expansion has been costing me more money almost every day. I feel like I’m finally a regular at Home Depot.
I also used power tools this week, unsupervised. I helped Mike Page and Nuben install French Doors to divide the gallery and the lounge. I hung magnet strips in the dark room for Remi. I’m trying to clean as we go so we’re not left with a huge mess at the end. The end is in sight we just need to finish a wall, some painting, installing shelving and trim and the floor. I can’t wait to be able to share our new space with you.
We’re hoping to host a grand opening on July 20 up here, we just need to get a few more things done so that I know we’ll be ready on time.
I got on the torch a bit this week to make ring holders for the market. It’s been hard to find the right headspace to create lately with the studio in disarray due to construction.
I’ve been listening to a lot of Radiohead. Last night I started sketching in a notebook. I’ve finally come up with a way to incorporate one of my conceptual art ideas into my work. I’ll be working on a new body of work this summer for the first time in a long time.
It’s been an exhausting summer already. I am eager for this expansion project to be complete so I can get back to putting my focus into creating. We’re so close, and I am beyond grateful for the team that have been helping bring the gallery to life.
Thank you Stan, Nuben, Heather, Ray, Remi, Mike Page, Morgan, Alex, Eric and everyone else who has popped by to lend a hand.
The light at the end of the tunnel is beginning to show through.
Now I need to get rolling for the Sunday Vail Market so I can get there to support the team.
As always thanks for tuning in and enjoy your Sunday.
