On Sundays I reflect.
I didn’t drink alcohol this week but I did last week.
Basel was amazing this year in Miami. Unfortunately I had to cut my trip short to be home for a holiday market my studio hosted with our neighbors at The Barn in Minturn. Over 250 people came!
I spent this week recovering from it all.
I got a few laps on my snowboard this week just to get outside. We need more snow before I can really get after it.
Driving has started to pick back up and the next few weeks are going to be a whirlwind of trips between Denver and Vail and wherever else I end up.
It’s been an extremely challenging year, which is clear now that I realize it’s almost over. Once again, we made it through.
I think a lot about progress and forward motion. Sometimes it distracts me from the mantra Be Here Now.
Snowboarding helps with presence. The way I ride leaves no space for the brain to think about anything else.
Glass can be like that for me as well. While I still love blowing glass, I’m struggling to express myself with the medium.
Writing is much easier for me to get into an unfiltered creative flow. I want to continue exploring other mediums in the year to come as a way to combat my creative “writer’s block”.
With glass I am excited to continue exploring large scale sculpture and I am close to being able to release my first available sculpture. Up until now it’s all been commissioned works.
Stan has been integral in helping bring my ideas into reality. We work well together as a team at this point.
My friends Tucker and Jensen have been helping out around the studio and the space continues to improve. We have a new photographer moving in next month and the dark room will be operational again. I would love to get back to shooting and developing film.
Yesterday we blew glass in the Vail Village at the first annual Wall Street Block party. It was a great day of community and artists coming together with local businesses and I’m hoping to see more of this around town in the future.
My friend Robert Burch wants to set up a soft glass working station at my studio which will add a whole new world to the space. Slowly but surely the Minturn Maker Space is coming together. We have outgrown Bat Country Studios and evolved into a community art space and I couldn’t be happier.
I feel big changes coming in my life right now. There are very few things I refrain from sharing here, but I do maintain a private personal life in some capacity. For the first time in a decade there is an imminent life shift occurring for me and it’s unclear what things will look like on the other side.
Sometimes this kind of shock to the system is exactly what’s needed to kick things into gear. I’m hopeful that’s how this next transition goes.
It’s not too late for holiday gifts and we still need help clearing shelf space in the new gallery before we can bring in new work. Please reach out if you are interested in acquiring a new piece for someone special in your life or just to add to the personal collection.
I was talking to an art curator I finally connected with in Miami after years of attempts. As we got into it I realized that over the last decade I’ve sold millions of dollars worth of handmade drinkware from artists who inspire and speak to my soul. I’m honored to be a part of the glass pipe movement, a very special moment in time. The art form transcends the pipe and the plant, and the community raised the art to where it is because we value the art. We are three decades into an underground art movement that will transcend time.
Thank you for being a part of all of this and enjoy your Sunday,
BB
