Sunday 2/5/23

February 05, 2023

On Sundays I reflect.

I didn’t drink alcohol this week. I didn’t even have time to think about having a drink, and I went out to the bars Friday night in Vail.

I have been way too busy to write a blog post for the last week or two but today, despite it being later than usual I’m definitely here to share the latest with you all.

The Vail Cup Collectors Club is next weekend and we have been in crush mode getting ready for the show. Blitzkriega and Quasar came to Bat Country Studios to collaborate for the show and we got in some killer cups together! I also got out on the hill with Quasar and a client who has become a friend over the years that happened to be visiting Vail.

After some serious storms it’s dry here this week and forecast to stay that way next week. This means unlike some years in the past people might actually be able to make it to town for the show. I’ll never forget the year we got over four feet of snow leading up to the show causing cancelled flights and a closed tunnel.

It’s never a show without at least a little bit of last minute chaos. Austin Texas got hit with some weather that caused the city to close down and our guys Holdin Golden and Geoff had the power going out while Ian was doing the final seal of his cup on the lathe. Of course he saved it like a champion, but not without a little excitement!

I’ve been blowing glass and will have a significant body of work available at this show, and I’m really trying to get one fully worked solo pint made for next weekend. I’m confident my team and the friends coming out for the show will help me get it done, even if it comes down to the night before the show.

I haven’t had much time for sleep lately, but there have been some naps on the couch a few days of the week. I’ve never been more excited going into a show. All the pieces are coming together and my team has me feeling prepared and at ease.

It’s hard to really describe what the day to day looks like here at Bat Country, but it must be said that my team is responsible for making the experience for artists and collectors the best we can offer. Marta is at the point where she makes fun of me for asking her to do things she’s already taking care of and Eric is bringing new ideas to the table weekly and helping implement the projects that are simply more than I can manage on my plate. Without Marta the studio would not be operating the way it does and our guests would not have the experience we are offering, and I am grateful for the appreciation our guests show to the team.

It feels like we’re all working towards a common goal at the studio to support these artists and get their work out in the world for people like you to enjoy.

Thank you for supporting that mission.

I have some projects on my plate for this afternoon (hopefully including a nap). Definitely tune in live on Instagram for our last round of Sunday Specials before the show and check out the new Sunday Specials section here on the website.

As always thanks for tuning in and enjoy your Sunday.
