Sunday 11/26/23

November 27, 2023

On Sundays I reflect.

I had two beers this weekend at Thanksgiving. I’m glad it didn’t escalate to more than that. One was a Spotted Cow the night before Thanksgiving for nostalgia sake, and then another New Glarus beer after Thanksgiving dinner. There is a long standing tradition in my family to attend “the hang” at the hotel lobby bar after Thanksgiving dinner. I used to be known for indulging heavily at the hang, dating back to one of the first times I ever got drunk when I was around 15.

I had to leave the hang early this year, despite protests from my brother and my cousin Michael. I didn’t want to continue drinking, and I knew that if I stayed it was inevitable. Sometimes I have to remove myself from situations in order to control my drinking. I wish that weren’t the case but I’ve learned in my sobriety that it can be necessary. A big part of my sobriety is sacrifice.

Before leaving Colorado I did have a pretty awesome week. I got to spend time in Evergreen collaborating with Alex Ubatuba for my upcoming Miami show. Alex is one of the most talented artists I’ve ever worked with and his studio is on another level. We’ve become friends over the last few years, and it was a real honor to be invited to collaborate in his space. I spent some time visiting the guys at Everdream while I was there and acquired a few pieces from Eusheen. The collab Pilsner he made with his brother Shen already sold, along with his lidded goblet collab with Eric Goldschmidt and Avatar but we do have one solo Eusheen Pilsner that will be available on the website later this week.

Ubatuba and I made our way down the hill to see Artist Stylie’s show at Purple Haze before grabbing dinner with Justin Carter and Liz Wright. It was great to get some time together outside the typical chaos of the shows or events we typically bump into each other at and have a bit more in depth conversation over a steak dinner.

When I got back to Vail there was a bit more snow, so I got some laps in on the hill just to get outside and move my body. The Thanksgiving crowds drove me away after just a lap or two, but it does feel good to get out.

Then Wednesday Beaver Creek opened and I took a few laps with Grace and Bennie before flying to the Midwest to see my family for the holiday. What a treat to be able to snowboard before riding straight to the airport!

I also had some help from Marta polishing the Sake Set I made for the upcoming Miami show, and I am thrilled to be offering my first set of its kind next week.

Miami is just around the corner and our team couldn’t be more excited. There are some pieces being made that are going to completely push the boundaries of our scene and our material, and I couldn’t be more proud of the artists and my team for making this show a reality. We really hope to see you there. We will have an amazing release of fresh work and live demonstrations from Taffy, Holdin Golden and the Ceramics crew at Ocisly plus live DJ performance from Charlie Soul Clap and Coleen Dieker accompanying with her violin. Tickets are available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/miami-cup-collectors-club-art-basel-edition-ocisly-drinking-vessels-tickets-754656436717?aff=oddtdtcreator

I also want to give a shoutout to our friend Katadellic for featuring us in her Heady Holiday Gift Guide with Hashtek which you can see here https://hashtek.ca/heady-holiday-gift-guide/?fbclid=PAAaY22X4HI4YhrkYRBlz9_fdkOITlZmXXNKY6j-uIUQsJC_73qiA1y6WMYQs_aem_AWTCBtzsuXgKp8WUVRtPFF7_L25NI8CMmM7ATrYwrFk7HsjnPpv3S-QKV3R854ozTO4

I have so much gratitude right now for the people in my life. I want to write more here with you all today, but I need to prioritize spending the time I have with my family. Thank you so much for tuning in and for supporting me as I’m able to follow my passion.

On behalf of our team and our artists - thank you so much for your support this year. We couldn’t do this without you and at a time that has been extra challenging for independent makers we are that much more appreciative of every purchase you make this holiday season.

Wishing you all a happy holiday season, and looking forward to huge things on the horizon.

Thank you sincerely,

BB
