On Sundays I reflect.
I didn’t drink alcohol this week. Abstinence has been going pretty well lately.
This week was full of highs and lows. It was intense to say the least.
Stan and I are making progress on our commissioned installation for a private home in Aarowhead. Together we have made a dent in decorating nine shelves beside a fireplace and television.
Most of the space is being filled with Stan’s cobalt floppy bowls, and a few shelves will have collaborative sculptures which we will work on together. The first major sculpture is complete and came out nearly as perfect as we could have hoped. The next few are as ambitious and will be fun to attempt this week.
Upon completing the first sculpture I immediately returned my parents call to learn that our cousin had passed away. The funeral is today and I am in Phoenix with my family to honor Diana’s memory.
This one is a real tragedy, of which I will not go into detail here. I’m grateful to have family that can come together during dark times.
It was hard to focus on work this week. I had to put the larger sculptures on hold until I could get into the right head space. Thankfully the first one was complete when I got the news.
I spent an afternoon and night watching Michelle and Seth’s kids while they were away. It was nice to take my mind off things with the kiddos. I can’t believe how grown up they are these days. I’ve known two of the three since they were born.
It’s been almost a decade in the Vail Valley. This is another fact that is hard to believe. Life has changed so much from my mid twenties to my mid thirties.
Yesterday while I was at the airport I got a message from a close friend and fellow artist who has been at the top of my list to add to my collection for years. We were finally able to work out a trade and my first piece from him is on the way to the house.
In addition to the piece “Post Data” which he began creating in 2020 just as lockdown began and finished a year later in 2021, I have two other pieces on the way that will be available in the gallery soon. I am thrilled to finally be able to represent Ethan Meyer and own a piece of his for my own enjoyment and pondering.
On an unrelated note, I saw a woman this week that I dated in college over a decade ago. She reached out while visiting Vail with her older son and they came by for a clay class in our pottery studio with Heather. We haven’t seen each other in many years so it was great to catch up and be able to show her the studio. She was there when I first found glass all those years ago.
Well that seems like enough for today. As always thanks for tuning in.
