On Sundays I reflect.
I didn’t drink alcohol this week. It snowed in Vail for a few days, so I find myself especially sore on this Sunday.
Thursday I got up early to ride with Reda, and we had a blast! Conditions were awesome and not many people get up on a Thursday morning so it wasn’t too crowded. On our last run we bumped into friends and decided to take another lap with them because we were having so much fun. After the hill Reda came to the studio to shoot in the light box one last time before Thanksgiving and of course Black Friday. I can’t forget Small Business Saturday...
Friday was a little more crowded, but coverage was even better and snow was still coming down. I rode with the Weston squad, and almost kept up until their friends on skis threw casual backflips into the trees. As I followed the line ready to send a little kicker over a small tree, my trajectory was abruptly changed by the tree I had misgauged. Jensen and the Weston crew watched me launch upside down and soar through the air. Fortunately the landing wasn’t too bad, but I was definitely reminded that we’re still in sketchy pre-season conditions.
I’ve never been so stoked to be back on my board as I am this season. I’m feeling more confident in my riding than ever. To those who have joined me on the hill in years past, I’ve been known as being a bit wild or even out of control. Riding in the trees last year especially, forced me to improve tremendously. It doesn’t hurt that I’m riding up to date gear that fits me for the first time in almost twenty years. Shoutout to Weston Backcountry for keeping me and the studio (and my brother) on fresh boards. If you haven’t ridden a Weston I highly suggest it, and not just because they’re my neighbors!
The high school interns are getting in the swing of things at the studio. On Tuesday the boys came over and polished scraps, practicing using the torch and getting the feel for the glass. After that they made tacos for the second week in a row for our weekly Taco Tuesday community open house. The girls have been working on drawing and illustrating stickers, and a few of them sold with cups this week so we were able to pay them a few bucks for their work. It was the first time either had sold their own art and was a pretty cool experience for everyone, including my collectors who want to support young artists.
Thanksgiving is coming up and the year is almost over! It’s hard to believe how fast 2019 has flown by. I’m preparing to go home to spend the holiday with my family, followed by my annual trip to Miami for Art Basel and Miami Art Week. I’m looking forward to some time with the fam followed by a week at the beach before coming home to full winter mode in the mountains.
The Vail Cup Collectors Club is just around the corner! We’ll be announcing the lineup this week, and tickets will be made available on the website soon...
We got another box of mugs from Ed Wolfe and half of them pre-sold. The rest are waiting on the next photo shoot but you can message us to see what’s available. There’s a pair of tumblers on the way from Rone and Cowboy after their three pint glass collaborations sold quickly. The trio just made it to their home in Wisconsin with my dude Scotty who tagged us all on Instagram moments after unboxing them. This is an awesome way of letting me know you received your cups undamaged in the mail, as shipping delicate art is always a little stressful. Fortunately we’ve got a system down with very little breakage, but if you do ever receive a damaged piece please send us photos of the piece and the packaging so we can file an insurance claim. We ship with USPS and have had nothing but good experiences with them.
As always, thank you for tuning in!

I blew glass almost every day this week. That felt good, mostly. I’m working on a lot of repetitive projects and prep, which can get old. I’ve been able to squeeze a few fun little experiments in between the monotonous work, and overall I’m having a good time on the torch.
I’ve been working on a playlist on spotify for you to tune into, and a correlating blog with my thoughts and anecdotes about the chosen songs and artists. Check that out here.
